Jewish Family & Career Services through the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta received funding to provide services to older adults in Toco Hills and the surrounding communities. The program is called NORC which stands for Naturally Occurring Retirement Community. Our office is located inside the Life Enrichment Services Building at 1340 McConnell Drive, Decatur GA.
The function of a NORC is to help seniors age successfully in their own community. The Toco Hills NORC exists to connect seniors to services, identify both individual and community concerns and keep the members up-to-date on ongoing activities and events.
The goal of the NORC is to create thriving, inspiring programs to bring seniors out of their homes which in turn will help to decrease the amount of social isolation. We have created a model that fulfills the emotional, social and educational needs of older adults.
The Toco Hills NORC offers a wide array of services that adults 60+ can access:
• Home delivered meals
• In-home evaluations
• Yard work and chore services
• Exercise and preventive health
• Referrals to home repair providers
• Social programs and outings
At present our Toco Hills NORC provides a weekly Tai-Chi Class, a once a month luncheon with entertainment called Marvelous Monday, and a Caregiver Support Group with respite care, just to name a few of the many things we do.
